Herbal Gathering Spell No. 1. 4th Century AD

I have translated this text from the collection of the National Library of France (Supplément grec. 574), better known as PGM 2967-3006. In this method, a plant is viewed through the lens of the qualities bestowed upon it by the twelve gods to awaken its specific spiritual powers. It is also worth noting that this method is generally quite gentle; a faster, more overtly magical method of herb gathering from the ancient period can be read in another article.
The title of the ritual in the text reads: "Among the Egyptians [αιγυπτιοις], plants [βοtanαι] are always gathered in this manner." I have included photocopies of the spell from the papyrus at the end of the article.

Translation

The physician [ριζοτομος] first purifies his body, then sprinkles it with natron¹. He then fumigates the plant with pine resin [ρητινη εκ πιτυος], circling it three times.
After burning kyphi² and offering a libation of milk accompanied by prayers, he uproots the plant while invoking the name of the spirit [δαιμον] to which it belongs³, petitioning the spirit to ensure the plant's intended effect is potent.

The incantation they recite over the plant before harvesting it:

You were sown by Cronus [κρονου], contained by Hera [ηρας], watched over by Ammon [αμμωνος], fashioned by Isis [ισιδος], nourished by the rain of Zeus [διος], and raised by Helios and his dew!
You are the dew of all the gods, the heart of Hermes [ερμου], the seed of the primordial gods [σπερμα των προγονων θεων], the eye of Helios [ηλιου], the light of Selene [σεληνης], the movement of Osiris [οσιρεως], the beauty and glory of Uranus [ουρανου], the soul of Osiris—the spirit that is in every place—and the spirit [or breath] of Ammon!
Just as you exalt Osiris, so exalt yourself and rise like Helios, who ascends each day!
Your length is equal to the length of Helios at midday!
Your roots spring from the depths, yet your powers reside in the heart of Hermes; your wood is the bones of Mnevis [μνευεως], your flowers are the eye of Horus [ωρου], and your seeds are the seed of Pan [πανος].
I anoint you with resin, as I do the gods, and for my own well-being. Be purified by prayer and grant strength, as do Ares and Athena [αρης και η αθηνα].
I am Hermes! I endow you with Fortune and a Good Spirit in a good hour and a good day, for success in all things!

Once this is said, they wrap the plant in clean linen. In place of its roots, they cast seven wheat seeds and an equal number of barley seeds, mixed with honey. After covering everything with earth, they depart.
