Flaming fire.

Flaming fire is the primal energetic substance from which all manifested forms of light and heat proceed. In Hebrew, the term often associated with this concept is אש (Aesh), the elemental fire that is both destructive and purifying. As a magical image, Flaming fire represents the active, transformative power that burns away dross and reveals the essential. It is not a symbol of comfort, but of ordeal and transmutation.

Position on the Tree of Life

This image corresponds to Path 24, which connects the sephirah Netzach (Victory) to the sephirah Yesod (Foundation). This path is attributed to the twenty-second letter of the Hebrew alphabet, Tav, and to the zodiacal sign of Saturn. The crossing of this path is a process of materialisation and stabilisation, where the raw energy of the spheres above is condensed into a more fixed form. Flaming fire here is the crucible through which the volatile forces of Netzach are made tangible and structured for the foundation of Yesod.

Astrological and planetary correspondence

The planet Saturn is attributed to Path 24. Saturn’s nature is cold, contractive, and delimiting. The image of Flaming fire on this path thus presents a paradox: the most consuming and expansive of elements is governed by the most restrictive of planets. This tension is resolved in understanding that true limitation is an act of concentration. The fire of Saturn burns with a black, consuming flame that reduces all complexity to its bare bones. This is the fire of discipline, of the end of cycles, and of the kernel of truth that remains after all illusion is incinerated.
