The Court Cards of the Tarot, with the Spheres of their Celestial Dominion—Pantacles. · Path 11

The Prince of the Chariot of Earth. 20° a to 20° b

The Prince of the Chariot of Earth, a Court card of the Tarot whose celestial dominion spans from 20° Aries to 20° Taurus, represents an active, energetic kingship over material foundations. The title “Prince of the Chariot” evokes the Hebrew Ben (Son) on the Throne of the Chariot (Merkabah), signalling a royal, dynamic descent of power into the sphere of Earth, corresponding to the sephirah Malkuth on the Tree of Life’s 29th Path (Peh).

Position on the Tree of Life

This card occupies Path 11 (the 11th scale-step on the Table of Correspondences), which is the realm of the Court Cards in their celestial pantacles. In the 777 schema, the Prince of the Chariot of Earth sits at the 11th step, bridging the astral forces of the Princes (active, ‘son’ archetypes) with the material world governed by the Chariot (a symbol of Kether’s descent through the supernal triangle).

Astrological and planetary correspondence

Its astrological range—20° of Aries to 20° of Taurus—connects the martial, initiatory energy of Mars (exalted in Aries) with the Venusian grounding of Taurus, producing a fixed, fiery-yet-earthy current. The Prince rules the third decan of Aries (20°–30°) and the first two decans of Taurus (0°–20°), giving him authority over the Tarot cards traditionally assigned to those degrees, such as the 4 of Wands and 5 of Disks. Planetary influences include Mars (action), Venus (harmony), and the Earth’s fixed signs.

Historical context

This Prince appears in the 777 table (Liber LXXIV, row 11) as the “Pantacle” of the Court Cards, a direct borrowing from the Golden Dawn’s Book T (The Tarot). The name “Prince of the Chariot of Earth” originates in the Sepher Yetzirah’s concept of the Chariot (Merkabah) as the throne of divine manifestation, filtered through the Hermetic Order’s Tarot attributions. In the GD system, the Prince corresponds to the son of the King and Queen in each suit; here, the Prince of Pentacles (Disks) is his earthly mask. The term “Chariot” ties him to the 7th Trump (The Chariot), which governs the Path of Cancer, but in the Prince’s case, it signifies the descent of the solar energy (Tiphareth) into the world of Assiah (Earth). Crowley later adapted this Prince as the Knight of Disks in the Thoth Tarot, retaining the same astrological range and martial-earthly nature.

In the table 777

At scale step 11, this Prince is listed as the “Pantacle” of the Court Cards, a formal name for the geomantic figure or Tarot card that encapsulates the sphere’s essence. No further numerical or letter correspondences are given in this row, as the focus is on the celestial boundaries of the four Princes (here, the one ruling Earth).
