The Heavens of Assiah · Keter

Araboth

Araboth is the seventh and highest of the seven heavens in Jewish mystical cosmology, often identified as the throne of God and the abode of the Divine Presence (Shekhinah). The name derives from the Hebrew עֲרָבוֹת (ʿărāḇōṯ), meaning 'plains' or 'deserts,' but in Kabbalistic contexts it signifies the highest celestial realm, the 'heaven of heavens.' It is the dwelling place of the most exalted angels, including the Seraphim and the Hayyot ha-Kodesh (Holy Living Creatures), and is associated with the divine throne-chariot (Merkabah).

Position on the Tree of Life

Araboth corresponds to the Sephirah Keter (the Crown) on the Tree of Life, the first and highest emanation. As the heaven of Assiah (the material world), it represents the most direct interface between the divine and the physical, a point of pure potential and divine will before manifestation.

Astrological and planetary correspondence

Araboth is linked to the Primum Mobile (the First Mover), the outermost celestial sphere in Ptolemaic cosmology, which imparts motion to all lower spheres. This association underscores its role as the source of all cosmic movement and the direct vehicle of divine influence.

Historical context

The concept of Araboth as the highest heaven appears in early Jewish apocalyptic and Merkabah literature, such as the Book of Enoch and the Hekhalot Rabbati, where it is described as the location of the divine throne and the celestial temple. In the Talmud (Chagigah 12b), the seven heavens are enumerated, with Araboth listed as the seventh, containing the throne of glory, the souls of the righteous, and the storehouses of life, peace, and blessing. Medieval Kabbalists, particularly in the Zohar, further developed this symbolism, equating Araboth with the Sephirah Keter and the hidden, transcendent aspect of God. In the Hermetic Qabalah of the Golden Dawn, Araboth retains its status as the highest heaven of Assiah, a realm of pure spirit and divine intention.

In Liber 777

In Crowley's Liber 777, Araboth appears as the Heaven of Assiah at the scale step of Keter (1), aligning it with the Primum Mobile and the highest divine forces. It is the first and most exalted of the seven heavens in this system, representing the ultimate source of all creation within the material universe.
