Right brain

The right brain, known in Kabbalistic terminology as Moka de-Abba (the Brain of the Father), represents the primordial seat of Wisdom (Chokmah) within the divine anatomy of Adam Kadmon. Unlike its analytical counterpart, this hemisphere is the source of raw, unstructured illumination, embodying the active, masculine, and seminal force of consciousness. It is the silent point of origin from which all spiritual and intellectual impulses spring before they are formulated into language or concept.

Position on the Tree of Life

In the emanational system of the Tree of Life, the right brain corresponds directly to the second Sephirah, Chokmah. Positioned at the summit of the Pillar of Mercy, it represents the first positive manifestation of the Divine Will emerging from the crown of Kether (the Skull). The energy flows from this right hemisphere across the abyss to fertilize the left brain (Binah), establishing the primary intellectual polarity of the universe.

Astrological and planetary correspondence

Associated with the Sphere of the Zodiac (Mazloth), the right brain aligns with the infinite, swirling energy of the fixed stars. This connection emphasizes its role as a receiver of cosmic, stellar influences that transcend the localized, planetary spheres. It represents the boundless potential of the night sky, transmitting raw stellar light into the human microcosm.

Historical context

Historically, the concept of the right brain as a divine organ is rooted in early Kabbalistic texts such as the Shi'ur Qomah (The Measurement of the Divine Body) and the Zohar. In these texts, the 'Brains of the Creator' are dissected not anatomically, but metaphysically. The Zohar describes the right brain as the hidden source of the 'Supernal Dew' that revives the dead, symbolizing the life-giving, dynamic nature of pure wisdom. Lurianic Kabbalah further elaborated this by identifying the right brain with the Partzuf (Divine Personification) of Abba (Father), the active agent of creation that continuously projects the seed of existence into the womb of the Mother (Imma).

Presence in Liber 777

In Aleister Crowley's Liber 777, the right brain is placed at scale step 2 under the column 'The Ten Divisions of the Body of God'. This attribution solidifies its role as the physical and macrocosmic anchor for Chokmah, mapping the vast, cosmic force of Wisdom directly onto the human nervous system as the seat of direct, unmediated gnosis.
