ינאד
ינאד (YINAD or Yened) is one of the seven permutations of the divine name that appear in the Kabbalistic scheme known as “The Revolutions of ינדא in Assiah.” The root is formed by taking the Tetragrammaton יהוה (YHVH) and inserting the letter נ (Nun) in each possible position, yielding seven distinct seven-letter names. ינאד is the second of these names, and it corresponds to the Sephirah Malkuth, the tenth sphere on the Tree of Life, i.e., the Kingdom, the realm of material manifestation and the culmination of the divine emanation. The name is pronounced in meditation as “YINAD” or “YENED,” and its letters are Yod-Nun-Aleph-Dalet (ינאד). In the scheme of the 42-letter Name (Shem ha-Meforash), these permutations are considered to be active in the world of Assiah, the world of action, and are used in contemplative and theurgic practices to align the practitioner with specific sephirotic forces.
Position on the Tree of Life
The seven letters of each permutation correspond to the seven lower Sephiroth, with the letter י (Yod) placed at the position of the Sephirah in question. In ינאד, the Yod is in the second position (reading from right to left), corresponding to Chokmah, the second Sephirah. However, the name as a whole is assigned to the scale step 10, which is Malkuth. This is because the scheme of “Revolutions” goes through all seven lower Sephiroth in a cycle, and at each step the permutation that has Yod in the position of that Sephirah is used. At the tenth Sephirah, the permutation with Yod in the position of Chokmah is used, because the cycle of seven begins at Keter (1) and proceeds through the Sephiroth, with each permutation coming to rest on a different number. Thus, at Malkuth, the name ינאד is the active revolution, representing the descent of pure wisdom (Chokmah) into the lowest point of the tree.
Astrological and planetary correspondence
Malkuth is linked to the element Earth and to the planet Saturn in its aspect of limitation and density, but more commonly it is associated with the sphere of the physical world and the four elements. In the system of Liber 777, the planetary attribution for Malkuth is Saturn (Shabbathai) on the 1=10 level, but also includes the element Earth as a foundation. The name ינאד thus carries the energy of Chokmah (Yod in position 2) filtered through the rest of the letters, grounding the wisdom of the stars into the physical realm. It is particularly used in talismanic magic related to material stability, protection, and the manifestation of spiritual intent in the world of action.
Historical context
These seven names are derived from the early Jewish Merkabah (Chariot) mystical tradition, specifically from the Hekhalot literature, where the 42-letter Name of God is used in ascension and theurgic practices. The permutations with Nun inserted appear in the Sefer Hekhalot (also known as 3 Enoch) and in the Merkabah Rabbah, where they are listed as the “Seven Names of the Seven Worlds.” The tradition evolved through the ‘Iyyun circle and later medieval Kabbalists, who systematized these names into the 777 correspondences. In the Sepher Yetzirah and the Zohar, the name ינדא is considered a specific matrix of creation, and its revolutions through the Sephiroth represent the different modes of divine interaction with the universe. The placement in Assiah (the world of action) indicates that these names are particularly potent for practical Kabbalah, i.e., magick and theurgy. Moses Cordovero and later Isaac Luria (the Ari) both commented on the permutations, though Luria assigned them to the world of Yetzirah (formation) as well. In 777, Aleister Crowley incorporated them as part of the column system, linking them to the Key Scale of the Tree of Life. The name ינאד at Malkuth thus represents the complete materialization of the divine name, the “footstool” of the Lord’s feet.
In Liber 777 itself, at the row for “The Revolutions of ינדא in Assiah,” the cell for the scale step 10 (Malkuth) is simply ינאד. It is written without further explication, as the correspondences are meant to be combined with other columns (e.g., the Roman numeral columns for the Sephiroth, the planetary attributions, etc.) for cross-referencing. The name here stands alone, as a pure symbol of the permutation that grounds the entire structure of the 42-letter Name into the physical plane, ready for the practitioner to contemplate or use in ritual.
