Pairs of Angels ruling Wands · Malkuth

Рейиэль и Омаэль

Reyiel (Reiyel) and Omael (Omael) form a paired angelic intelligence governing the Wands at the level of Malkuth — the Kingdom, the tenth Sephirah. Their names derive from Hebrew theophoric roots: Reiyel likely contains אֵל (El, God) with a root meaning "friend" or "companion" (רֵעַ, rea'), hence "Friend of God" or "God is a companion"; Omael connects to עַם (am, people) or אֹם (om, strength/fullness), thus "God of the people" or "Strength of God." As a pair, they represent the complete and steady foundation of elemental Fire — raw, undifferentiated will grounded in physical manifestation.

Position on the Tree of Life

This pair sits at Malkuth (the 10th Sephirah), the final sphere of the Tree of Life. In the practical Qabalah, Malkuth is the material world, the receptacle of all forces from the upper Sephiroth. Here, the Wands (the Fire of Will) are no longer conceptual or astral but fully realized as concrete action, endurance, and practical authority. Reiyel and Omael are therefore the gatekeepers of Fire-in-action: they rule over the final crystallization of the Wand’s energy into physical reality.

Historical context

The pairing of angelic names ruling Wands is based on late medieval and Renaissance magical traditions compiled within the Qabalah denudata and later synthesized by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. In the Clavicula Salomonis (the Key of Solomon) and associated grimoires, pairs of angels are assigned to the 36 decans of the zodiac, each ruling a specific time and purpose. Reiyel and Omael appear in the 10th decan of the zodiac (the final decan of the astrological year), corresponding to the period of Malkuth’s influence — the completion and stabilization of cycles.

The Golden Dawn’s system of correspondences, reproduced in Crowley’s Liber 777, formalizes these as “Pairs of Angels ruling Wands.” Each Sephirah receives a duo that embodies the specific balance of that sphere. On Malkuth, the pair must ground the fiery impulse into stability and endurance — hence Reiyel (the friendly, approachable aspect of God) and Omael (the strength of the people) together ensure that the will does not burn out but becomes a steady flame.

Symbolic nature

Reiyel governs the nurturing, relational aspect of the Fire — that which draws others into alignment through presence and example. Omael governs the robust, communal strength of that Fire — the will that holds together groups and manifests as tangible leadership. Their union on Malkuth suggests a fire that does not destroy but sustains: the warmth of a hearth, the light of a watchtower, the firm authority of a just ruler.

In Liber 777 at this step (scale step 10, Malkuth), Reiyel and Omael are listed as the paired angelic governors of the Wands, grounding the fiery aspiration into the world of Assiah — the sphere of action and matter.
