Verasua
Verasua is an Enochian angel, the Succedent angel of the 17th Aethyr, named TAN in the system of John Dee and Edward Kelley. The etymology of the name is uncertain; it is one of the thirty angelic names recorded in the Enochian calls, each governing a specific spiritual region or “Aire.”
Position on the Tree of Life
Verasua corresponds to Path 17 on the Tree of Life, the path of the Hebrew letter Zayin. This path connects the sephiroth Binah and Geburah and is traditionally associated with the zodiac sign Gemini, reflecting duality, communication, and the interplay of forces.
Astrological and planetary correspondence
Through its placement on Path 17, Verasua is linked to the zodiac sign Gemini (ruled by Mercury). In the Enochian system, the Aethyrs themselves are not directly planetary, but the path attribution ties the angel to the mercurial and airy qualities of Gemini—swiftness, adaptability, and intellectual exchange.
Historical context
Verasua belongs to the Enochian angelic hierarchy revealed to John Dee and Edward Kelley during their scrying sessions in the 1580s. The 30 Aethyrs (or “Aires”) are described in the Liber Loagaeth and the 48 Calls; each Aethyr is governed by three orders of angels: the Seniors (or Governors), the Succedent angels, and the Ministers. The Succedent angels “succeed” the Governors in authority and are invoked in the Enochian calls. Verasua is the Succedent angel of the 17th Aethyr, TAN, which in Dee’s system represents a specific region of the spiritual cosmos. The name appears in the “Table of the 30 Aethyrs” as recorded in later occult compilations, notably in Aleister Crowley’s Liber 777, where it is placed in the column “Succendent” (a variant spelling of “Succedent”).
In Liber 777, at the scale step of Path 17, Verasua is listed as the Succedent angel in the column corresponding to the 17th Aethyr, consistent with the Enochian attributions for the paths of the Tree of Life.
