Right Upper Point

The Right Upper Point is a specific geometric coordinate on the Qabalistic Tree of Life, marking the apex of the Pillar of Mercy. Its name derives from its position relative to the central axis and the lower points of the diagram, signifying the active, expansive, and masculine principle of divine wisdom (Chokmah).

Position on the Tree of Life

This point corresponds to the 21st Path (scale step 21) on the Tree of Life, which is the path of the letter Kaph (כ). It is the right-hand counterpart to the Left Upper Point (Path 27) and sits above the Right Lower Point (Path 14), forming the vertical column of the Pillar of Mercy. In the geometric arrangement of the Sephiroth, it is the uppermost point on the right side, directly below the Crown (Kether) and above the Sephirah Chokmah.

Astrological and Planetary Correspondence

In the Qabalistic system, the 21st Path is governed by Jupiter (צדק), the planet of expansion, benevolence, and authority. This aligns the Right Upper Point with the astrological principle of growth and wisdom, reflecting the nature of Chokmah as the first emanation of active force from the divine source.

Historical Context

The concept of the Right Upper Point appears in the earliest diagrams of the Tree of Life in the Zohar (13th century), where the Sephiroth are arranged as a cosmic man (Adam Kadmon). The right side of this figure is associated with the Pillar of Mercy, and the upper point specifically with the right eye or right hand of the divine countenance. In the 17th century, Christian Qabalist Athanasius Kircher popularized a standardized diagram in his Oedipus Aegyptiacus (1652), which fixed the positions of the points on the Tree. This diagram became the basis for later Hermetic and Golden Dawn traditions, where the Right Upper Point is a fixed coordinate for ritual alignments and meditative focus. In the Sepher Yetzirah, the letter Kaph (associated with this path) is described as the "crown of the head" in the microcosm, linking the point to the highest intellectual faculty.

In Liber 777, the Right Upper Point appears in table LXXXIII (row 'bar') at scale step 21, corresponding to Path 21. It is listed alongside its counterpart points (Left Upper, Bottom, Right Lower, Centre, and Top Points) as a positional reference for the geometric structure of the Tree of Life, serving as a key coordinate for the alignment of divine attributes in ceremonial work.
