Excretory System
The Excretory System is the aggregate of organs—kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and the eliminative functions of the skin, large intestine, and liver—by which the body expels the dregs of metabolism: urine, feces, sweat, and exhalations of fixed nitrogen. It is the terminal ingoing of the alchemical vessel, the vas bene clausum that turns inward then outward, discharging what the whirlings of the lesser circulation have rendered inert. In the nomenclature of Liber 777, the system stands as the physical complement to the 32nd Path, the “Intelligence of the Disposing,” and is the final administrative office of Malkuth’s most dense manifestations.
Position on the Tree of Life
The Excretory System corresponds to the 32nd Path, the lowest track on the Tree, connecting Malkuth (the Kingdom) to Yesod (the Foundation). It is the Path of the final letter Tau—the letter of Saturn, limitation, and earthly completion. Just as the 32nd Path completes the circuitry of the Qliphoth and the final descent of the Divine into matter, so the excretory system completes the circuit of the human body in the Sepher Yetzirah’s 32 Ways of Wisdom.
Astrological and Planetary Correspondence
Saturn is the sole planetary attribution for the Excretory System in 777. The analogy is exact: Saturn is the limit‑establishing and waste‑accepting planet of restriction, time, and depletion. The excretory organs operate under the same signature—they bind the corporeal economy by imposing a terminal quantity on absorption, and they receive the spent husks of vitality. In the Picatrix and in later Hermetic texts, the anus and urethra are called the “gates of Saturn,” through which the fixed and the foul pass out of the enclosures of the body.
Historical Context
The Zoharic tradition locates the excretory system in the realm of Qelippoth—the shells—specifically the klipah Gamaliel, associated with the obscene and the residual. The Bahir (section on the 32 Paths) implies that the waste of the body corresponds to the “dross of the gold” in alchemy: the caput mortuum that must be separated for the Lapis to be fixed. This was elaborated in the Latin alchemical corpus (e.g., Rosarium Philosophorum) where the “excrement of the body” (the nigredo stage) is exactly the prima materia for the work. Paracelsus wrote of the ens spirituale in the urine and feces, a spirit of elimination that mirrors the Azoth of the metals. In the Thelemic recension of Crowley’s The Vision and the Voice (Aethyr TEX), the 32nd Path is described as the “house of the excrement of the body of the Sun”; the excretory organs are the alembic of that house. The Book of Lies (Chapter 75, “The Swan”) alludes to the excretory function as the “silent banishment of the fixed,” correlating with the formula of IAO at the level of the physical vehicle.
In Liber 777, Table XII (Human Body), the Excretory System is assigned to Path 32, the same row as the Organs of Circulation and the Organs of Intelligence (32bis and 31bis). That table shows the excretory function as the final material parallel to the 32nd letter Tau—the Cross, the termination of the microcosmic map. Every other bodily system in the table either transforms, circulates, or contains; only the excretory ejects—it is the death of the nutrient within the living frame, the constant Hekatean sacrifice that keeps the house of Malkuth clean.
The system’s implication in the ceremonial magic of the Grimoirium Verum is a footnote: urine and feces are the base ingredients for seals of Saturn, used in binding rites and the making of the “Black Mirror.” This is not a praxis recommended, but a historical document of the perceived correspondence.
In the 777 Schema
At Step 32, the Excretory System is the only bodily system that maps to the letter Tau in the traditional 32‑Path arrangement. It integrates the planetary principle of Saturn (restriction and discharge) with the Sephirah of Malkuth (matter) and the magical image of a “King in His Chariot”—but here the chariot is the body’s own waste‑removing chariot, the Merkabah turned downward, making straight the way for the next ingestion. The system does not produce anything; it releases what has been consumed, returning the fixed to the dust and the fluid to the cesspool. That is its silent work: the completion of every cycle of assimilation, and the offering of the dregs to the Qliphotic depths that surround and support the Kingdom.
