ויהה

Position on the Tree of Life

ויהה corresponds to Tiphereth (Beauty), the sixth Sephirah on the Middle Pillar. In the scheme of the 231 Gates, each permutation of YHVH represents a distinct flow of energy through the Tree. At Tiphereth, the central harmonizing sphere, this permutation balances the severity of Geburah (5) with the mercy of Chesed (4), acting as the reconciling principle between the upper and lower Sephiroth.

Astrological and Planetary Correspondence

Tiphereth is ruled by the Sun, and ויהה partakes of this solar nature. In the 777 system, this name is linked to the solar current of Tiphareth, the sphere of the Son, the King, and the sacrificial god. The permutation’s placement at step 6 reflects the six-pointed star (Magen David), a symbol of the union of opposites—fire and water, male and female, heaven and earth—all harmonized in the solar center.

Historical Context

The practice of permuting the Tetragrammaton originates in the Sefer Yetzirah (Book of Formation), which describes the 231 Gates as the fundamental combinations of the Hebrew alphabet. The 12 permutations of YHVH (one for each of the 12 simple letters, plus the 10 Sephiroth) were later systematized by medieval Kabbalists, notably in the Zohar and the works of Rabbi Abraham Abulafia. In the 16th century, Moses Cordovero’s Pardes Rimonim (Orchard of Pomegranates) detailed these permutations as keys to the divine names. The specific assignment of ויהה to Tiphereth appears in the 777 table, derived from the Book of the Concourse of the Forces (Crowley’s adaptation of the Golden Dawn’s correspondences). Here, the name is a “revolvement” of YHVH, signifying the descent of the divine light into the heart of the microcosm—the human soul—where it becomes the center of consciousness and self-sacrifice.

Closing

In Liber 777, ויהה appears in row XCVI (The Revolutions of HWHY in Yetzirah) at step 6, Tiphereth, as the divine name that harmonizes the sephirotic structure through the solar principle of beauty and balance.
