Numeration of Col. LI. · Path 30
100
The number one hundred, in Hebrew spelled Qoph (100) as a letter value, is traditionally associated with the concept of Thav (or Tav), the final letter of the Hebrew alphabet, which carries the meaning of "sign," "mark," or "cross." In the Qabalistic system of Liber 777, this single integer does not merely represent a quantity but acts as a gate—a specific vibration on the Path of Tav (Path 30), which is the final and most material of the paths on the Tree of Life.
Position on the Tree of Life
Path 30 (Tav) connects Yesod (Foundation) to Malkuth (Kingdom). In the 777 table, the numeration of this column is given as 100. This placement is not arbitrary: it is the gate through which all forces descending from the supernal realms must pass to manifest in the physical world. As the number of completion, 100 here signifies the full materialization of the path’s energy—a threshold where spiritual influence becomes physical form.
Astrological and planetary correspondence
In the 777 schema, Path 30 is attributed to the planet Saturn (Shabbathai) and the element Earth in its most dense aspect. The number 100, as the value of Tav, aligns with Saturn’s role as the great delimiter—the sphere of limitation, time, and crystallization. The correspondence is not numerical coincidence; 100 is the square of 10 (Malkuth), reinforcing that this path is the final step of descent into matter, governed by Saturn’s slow, binding rhythm.
Historical context
The symbolic weight of 100 (Thav) in the Hebrew tradition is ancient. In the Torah, the letter Tav represents a mark or seal, as seen in Ezekiel’s vision where a Tav is inscribed on the foreheads of the faithful (Ezekiel 9:4). This mark is both a sign of judgment and a sign of covenant. In the Sefer Yetzirah, Tav is the final letter and corresponds to the element of Earth and the finger sign (the pointing of the hand)—a gesture of direction and conclusion to the world.
In the later Hermetic Qabalah, as formalized in the 17th-19th centuries, the number 100 gained specific importance as the value of the phrase Kether (Crown) in Hebrew (Kaf-Tav-Resh, 500?)—though this is actually 620, not 100. The more direct link is through the word Qoph (the name of the letter Qoph itself, spelled Qoph-Vav-Peh, which yields 100 for the Qoph alone) and Tav (Tav-Vav, also 400). In the 777 system, Crowley and Mathers assigned 100 to the column of Tav to emphasize the closure of the alphabet and the completion of the cycle of the 32 paths.
In classical grimoire tradition (e.g., the Key of Solomon), the 100th name or seal often related to spirits of Saturnine nature—those that bind and seal. The number appears in the Goetia as part of the seals that govern the spirits of the 19th to 23rd paths.
In Liber 777
As a cell value in the table (Column LI, Row 30), the number 100 stands as the direct numeration of the Path of Tav. It is not a word or a name but a pure number—a measure of the path’s vibration. In practice, this number is used in gematria to find words of equal value, such as Kelev (dog, Kaf-Lamed-Bet, 100?), actually 52, not 100. More accurately, the phrase Melekh (king, Mem-Lamed-Kaf, 90?) and Peh (mouth, 80) are close but not exact. The precise gematria of 100 corresponds to the letter Qoph itself (Qoph Vav Peh)), and to the word Qoph meaning "eye of the needle"—a reference to the narrow gate of Saturn. Thus, in any invocation working across this path, 100 is the cypher for the final sealing of the work into manifestation. It is the number that completes the alphabet and closes the circuit of the Tree of Life.
