100

The number one hundred (ἑκατόν, hekaton) is the numerical value of the Greek letter Rho (Ρ, ρ). In the alphabetic progression, it marks the crossing from the tens (10–90) into the first of the hundreds, a break in scale that signals a qualitative shift to a higher octal. Isopsephically, 100 is the value of the word etos (ἔτος, 'year'), representing the solar circuit and the cycle of return, as well as the root of hekaton itself implying a 'hundred' as a perfected multitude. It is the sum of the monad (1) applied to the decad (10), symbolizing the fully realized universe in a state of reflective self-containment.

Position on the Tree of Life

100 corresponds to the 30th path (Path 30) of the Sepher Yetzirah, which connects Hod (Splendor) to Yesod (Foundation). This path is assigned to the Hebrew letter Resh (ר) and the planet Sol. The number 100 here reflects the solar number (the Sun's year of approximately 360 days, hidden within the value 100 as the foundation of solar numerology) and the 'crystallization' of force into the vehicle of Yesod.

Astrological and planetary correspondence

Planet: Sol (the Sun). The number 100 is the Sun's scale number in the hekatonic system; the prefix hekat- in Greek is directly tied to the solar god Hekataios, and the Hekatoncheires (Hundred-Handed Ones) represent the Sun's infinite rays. In Liber 777, this number anchors the solar current on the 30th path, between the sphere of the intellect (Hod) and the generative foundation (Yesod).

Historical context

In the Pythagorean tradition, 100 was called the 'Square of the Decad' (10²) and the 'Mother of All'. It is the tetractys expanded to a perfect square, representing the completion of all number within the form of a single plane. The theologoumena arithmeticae describe 100 as the number of the World Soul, because it contains within it the ratios of the diatonic scale (1:2, 2:3, 3:4) at the level of the fixed stars. In the Corpus Hermeticum, the Poimandres mentions the 'hundred powers' that form the fabric of the cosmos. Jewish mystical systems correlate the value 100 with the letter Qoph (ק, 100) and the 'Crown of the Kingdom' (Keter Malkhut), though in this Greek column it is the solar Rho.

In the table of Liber 777, on the row of the Numeration of the Greek Alphabet, the number 100 appears at step 30 (Path 30). It thus stands as the solar gate on the downward arc of the Serpent, the fixed point from which the energies of the Sun descend into the lunar foundations of Yesod.
