Numeration of Col. LI. · Path 20

10

The number 10 is the first complete cycle of the decimal system, representing a return to unity after the multiplicity of the nine preceding digits. It is the number of the final Sephirah, Malkuth (the Kingdom), which is the material, physical world—the vessel that receives the outflow from all the higher Sephiroth. In the Hebraic system, the letter Yod (which forms the first letter of the Tetragrammaton) has the value 10, and is considered the seed-point of all manifestation, the father of all other letters.

Position on the Tree of Life (Path 20)

On the Tree of Life, the number 10 corresponds to Malkuth, the tenth and lowest Sephirah. It is situated at the base of the Middle Pillar, directly below Yesod. From a linear path perspective (as per the numbered paths in 777), the number 10 is the value assigned to Path 20, which is the path of the Letter Resh (the Sun). This path connects the realm of the Moon (Path 18) and the realm of the Sun (Path 20) to Malkuth, signifying that the material world is constantly receiving light both from solar consciousness and from the reflective, subconscious realms.

Astrological and Planetary Correspondence

In the astrological cross-reference of Liber 777, the number 10 (as Malkuth) is associated with the Earth element and the kingdom of the material world. However, in the context of the Path 20 (value 10), the planetary correspondence is the Sun, because the letter Resh (value 200, which is 200 = 10 x 20) rules the solar influence. The Sun in the Qabalah represents the individual consciousness that illuminates the dense physical body.

Historical Context

The number 10 was venerated by the Pythagoreans as the Tetraktys, a triangular arrangement of ten points representing the four elements, the five solids, and the completion of the musical octave. The Qabalists adopted this decimal system for the ten Sephiroth, as described in the Sefer Yetzirah (Book of Formation), where the ten Sefirot are the thirty-two paths of wisdom, and the number 10 is the final Sephirah, Malkuth. Crowley’s Liber 777 uses the number 10 in its numeration columns to index, indirectly, the numeric values assigned to the Sephiroth and the paths. In the column referenced by the numeration (Col. LI), the number 10 is the index value for Malkuth, and its corresponding gematria is 200, the value of Resh, the Sun. In the Sepher Rezial and later Hermetic literature, 10 is the number of the returning Zayin (the sword of completion) and the number of the commandments given to Israel, symbolising the perfect law of the material world.

In the Table

In the specific context of Liber 777, the number 10 appears as the row index (the numeration of Col. LI) for Malkuth. It is the number that links the Sephirah to its gematria (200), its path (20), and to the other correspondences assigned to the Kingdom. It is a fixed point in the grid, anchoring the final Sephirah in the decimal scheme.
