Sachiel

Sachiel is a principal angelic intelligence associated with the sphere of Jupiter, known by various names including Zachariel or Zechariel, with his name often interpreted as 'Covering of God' or 'Righteousness of God.' He functions as a celestial governor of abundance, expansion, and mercy, serving as a mediator of Jupiter's benefic influence in Western angelological traditions.

Position on the Tree of Life

Sachiel presides over the Sephirah of Chesed (Mercy) on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, the fourth emanation representing loving-kindness and expansion. This placement positions him on the Pillar of Mercy, where his influence flows downward through the 12th Path (Gimel, connecting Kether to Tiphareth) before manifesting through Jupiter's sphere.

Astrological and Planetary Correspondence

Jupiter, the celestial sphere of Sachiel, embodies the principles of growth, fortune, and benevolence. In astrological magic, Sachiel governs Thursday (dies Jovis), and his hours are considered propitious for operations involving wealth, honor, legal matters, and spiritual growth. He is associated with the Jupiterian seal from the Clavicula Salomonis and the planetary intelligence of the Jupiter talisman.

Historical and Traditional Sources

The earliest substantial Western grimoire tradition places Sachiel among the seven planetary angels who govern the heavens. In the Heptameron (attributed to Pietro d'Abano, 1496), Sachiel is named as the angel of Jupiter, with the explanation that his day is Thursday and that he rules over the northern quarter during his hours. The Lemegeton (The Lesser Key of Solomon) likewise lists Sachiel as the Intelligence of Jupiter, noting his role in granting prosperity, favor, and tranquility to those who invoke him rightly.

Cornelius Agrippa, in his Three Books of Occult Philosophy (1533), elaborates on the hierarchies: Sachiel leads the order of the Hasmalim (the Brilliant Ones), the angelic choir corresponding to the sephirah Chesed. He describes Sachiel's sigil as derived from a magic square of Jupiter (a 4×4 grid totaling 34 in each direction), the seal being instrumental for focusing Jupiter's influences into material talismans.

The Geomantic tradition places Sachiel as the intelligence behind the figure Fortuna Minor, or 'Lesser Fortune,' which like Jupiter signifies incoming benefit, unexpected help, and gentle success. This geomantic figure, composed of a single point over two points in a columnar pattern, mirrors Sachiel's swift and generous character, distinct from the slower but more established Fortuna Major (governed by the Archangel of the Sun).

In the 777 Correspondences

At the current table step (Path 21, Geomantic Intelligences column), Sachiel appears as the geomantic intelligence linked to Fortuna Minor, affirming his role as a benefic planetary spirit in the synthetic framework of Liber 777. This table value harmonizes with his station as the Jupiter angel, combining his Kabbalistic sphere (Chesed), his planetary metal (tin), and his geomantic expression as a figure of swift fortune.
