Head
The Head is the vessel of the mind, the locus of thought, will, and perception. In Hebrew, the word rosh (ראש) signifies not only the physical head but also the beginning, the chief, and the summit—a direct link to the first principle. In the context of the Qabalistic Tree of Life, the Head corresponds to the supernal triad of Kether, Chokmah, and Binah, the highest emanations of the divine. It is the crown of the microcosm, mirroring the macrocosmic Crown (Kether) itself.
Position on the Tree of Life
This correspondence is fixed at Path 30, the 30th path of the Tree of Life. Path 30 is the path of Resh (ר), the Hebrew letter meaning 'head' or 'beginning.' It connects the sephirah Hod (Splendour) to Netzach (Victory), forming a bridge between intellectual rigor and emotional endurance. The Head here is not merely a physical part but a symbol of the conscious direction of energy—the steering wheel of the soul.
Astrological and planetary correspondence
In the 777 system, Path 30 is governed by the Sun. The Head, as the seat of the solar principle, represents the radiant, conscious self—the Ruach (spirit) that illuminates the lower nature. The Sun’s influence here emphasizes clarity, authority, and the power of focused intention. The head is the chariot of the solar light, the organ through which the divine will manifests in the world of action.
Historical context
The identification of the Head with the letter Resh and the Sun is ancient. In the Sefer Yetzirah, Resh is one of the twelve simple letters, associated with the head of the year and the cycle of the sun. The Egyptian hieroglyph for the head (tp) also signified 'first' or 'chief,' and was used in royal titulary to denote the pharaoh as the head of the state. In the Hermetic tradition, the head is the microcosmic equivalent of the Sun at the center of the planetary spheres—the 'crown' of the body, as the Sun is the crown of the heavens. The Renaissance magician Cornelius Agrippa, in his Three Books of Occult Philosophy, elaborates on the head as the seat of the intellect and the image of the divine, linking it to the sphere of the Sun and the metal gold.
In the table of Liber 777, the Head appears at this step as the English equivalent of the Hebrew letter Resh in Column II. It is the direct, physical symbol of the solar principle—the 'head' of the body as the Sun is the head of the cosmos. This correspondence anchors the abstract concept of divine will into the tangible, human form, reminding the practitioner that the seat of authority and illumination is always within.
