English of Col. II. · Malkuth

Kingdom

Kingdom (Malkuth) is the tenth and final Sephirah on the Qabalistic Tree of Life, translating literally from Hebrew as “Kingdom” or “Reign.” It is the culmination of the entire creative process, the realm where the divine light that issues from Keter is fully manifested and actualized. For this reason, Malkuth is also called the “Inferior Mother” or the “Bride,” receiving the forces of the upper nine Sephiroth and giving them concrete form.

Position on the Tree of Life

Malkuth resides at the very base of the Middle Pillar, directly below Yesod and Tiphereth. It holds the tenth position on the Tree and is the sole Sephirah associated with the realm of Assiah, the World of Action. As the final destination of the descending creative energy, it is the point where the divine enters the physical and sensory universe.

Astrological and planetary correspondence

Malkuth has no planetary assignment; instead, it is linked to the element of Earth in its most dense and substantial aspect. Some traditions also associate it with the Moon, not as a ruler but as a reflection of the light it receives. In astrological terms, Malkuth corresponds to the terrestrial sphere, the domain of matter and the physical body.

Historical context

The origin of Malkuth as a distinct Sephirah is found in the Sefer Yetzirah, the foundational text of Jewish mysticism, where it appears as the final of the ten Sephiroth. In that work, it is described as the “Bride” of the King, completing the divine structure. Later Kabbalistic literature, most notably the Zohar, elaborates on Malkuth as the Shekhinah, the divine presence dwelling among humanity. In the 16th century, the Safed mystic Isaac Luria placed Malkuth at the heart of his cosmological scheme, where it is both the final point of the first emanation and the starting point for the repair (tikkun) of the shattered vessels. The Hermetic and Thelemic current, as recorded in Liber 777, inherits this dense tradition: Malkuth is the realm of the elemental spirits, the four worlds, and the final goal of the alchemical work—not as a transcendence of matter, but as its complete sanctification.

In Liber 777

In the table of Liber 777 for the current step (10), the English of column II—reflecting the English of the original printed table—is given as “Kingdom.” This entry places the subject in its proper context: the earthly manifestation that is the terminal point of the entire Sephirotic system, receiving and containing the forces of all the higher Sephiroth.
