Nothing · No Limit · Limitless L.V.X.
Nothing · No Limit · Limitless L.V.X. is the paradoxical designation for the ultimate, unmanifest reality that lies beyond even the highest Sephirah, Kether. In Kabbalistic terminology, this is the Ain Soph Aur (אין סוף אור), the Limitless Light—an infinite, undifferentiated radiance that precedes all creation. The three terms—Nothing, No Limit, Limitless L.V.X.—form a triadic description of the same ineffable state: 'Nothing' (Ain) as absolute negation, 'No Limit' (Ain Soph) as boundless potential, and 'Limitless L.V.X.' (Ain Soph Aur) as the unmanifest light that is the source of all subsequent emanation. The 'L.V.X.' (Latin for 'light') specifically invokes the Hermetic and Rosicrucian concept of the spiritual light that is the first stirring of creation, yet remains utterly transcendent and beyond all form or attribute.
Position on the Tree of Life
This subject corresponds to the zero scale step, the point before the first Sephirah. It is not a Sephirah itself but the 'Veil of the Unmanifest' that precedes Kether (the Crown). In the diagram of the Tree of Life, this is the 'Three Veils of Negative Existence'—Ain, Ain Soph, and Ain Soph Aur—which represent the stages of withdrawal and contraction (Tzimtzum) that allow a finite universe to emerge. The zero step indicates that this is the absolute origin, the 'No Thing' from which all things are differentiated.
Astrological and Planetary Correspondence
There is no direct astrological or planetary correspondence for this state, as it precedes all celestial and temporal cycles. However, it is sometimes associated with the 'Primum Mobile' or the 'Sphere of the Fixed Stars' in a purely symbolic sense, as the first boundary of manifestation. In the 777 system, its planetary attribution is effectively null, representing the unmanifest potential that underlies all astrological influences.
Historical Context
The concept of the Limitless Light originates in the medieval Kabbalistic tradition, particularly in the Zohar and the works of Isaac Luria (the Ari). The Ain Soph Aur is described as the infinite, unknowable light that fills all existence before the act of creation. To allow for a finite world, this light underwent a process of 'Tzimtzum' (contraction), withdrawing into itself to create a 'void' or 'empty space' (the Chalal) in which creation could occur. This void is paradoxically both the absence of the Limitless Light and the vessel for its subsequent emanation. In Hermetic Qabalah, as systematized by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and later by Aleister Crowley in Liber 777, this concept is synthesized with the Neoplatonic idea of the One beyond being and the Buddhist concept of Sunyata (emptiness). The term 'L.V.X.' is also a central formula in Thelemic and Rosicrucian mysticism, representing the spiritual light attained through initiation, but here it is used in its most primordial, unmanifest sense—the light that has not yet become light.
In Liber 777
In the table of Liber 777, this subject appears at scale step 0, the 'Three Zeros' that precede the first Sephirah. It is the root of all subsequent correspondences, the silent, dark, and infinite source from which the entire system of the Tree of Life and its myriad symbols emanate. It is the 'No Thing' that is the ground of all things, the Limitless Light that is the ultimate mystery of the Qabalah.
