The Perfected Man · Netzach
The Lords of Kereba — the Reins. Nuit — the Hips and Legs.
The Lords of Kereba are the divine guardians of the reins (kidneys), a specific group of Egyptian funerary deities responsible for protecting these organs in the mummification process. Nuit, the sky goddess, is here assigned the hips and legs, representing the lower arch of her starry body that spans the earth. The reins, in Egyptian physiology, were considered the seat of vital fluids and moral discernment, while Nuit’s hips and legs symbolize the foundational pillars of the celestial vault.
Position on the Tree of Life
This correspondence occupies step 7 on the Tree of Life, the Sephirah Netzach (Victory). Netzach corresponds to Venus, the sphere of desire, emotion, and the instinctual drives that govern physical and creative expression. The reins and hips/legs thus become the anatomical anchors of Netzach’s domain: the kidneys filter and regulate the body’s fluids, mirroring the emotional filtration of experience, while the hips and legs ground the individual in motion and procreative power.
Astrological and planetary correspondence
As a Netzach attribution, this cell aligns with the planet Venus. The reins (kidneys) are astrologically linked to Venusian balance and the purification of the blood, while the hips and legs govern locomotion and the physical expression of love and beauty. In the microcosm, these body parts channel the Venusian currents of attraction, rhythm, and the dance of life.
Historical context
The pairing of the Lords of Kereba with Nuit’s hips and legs draws from the Egyptian Book of the Dead, where the Kereba deities (often four in number) guard the viscera of the deceased. The reins specifically were associated with the goddess Neith in some traditions, but here they are placed under a collective lordship. Nuit’s body, depicted as an arched woman studded with stars, has her hips and legs as the western and eastern horizons. In the Pyramid Texts, Nuit is said to "spread herself over her father Geb" with her hands and feet touching the four cardinal points. The 777 table synthesizes these into a single correspondence: the reins as the seat of judgment (the kidneys "test" the heart in Egyptian weighing of the soul) and the hips/legs as the base of the sky’s arch.
In the table of 777
At step 7 (Netzach) in the column "The Perfected Man," this cell names the Lords of Kereba as the reins and Nuit as the hips and legs. It stands as a dual attribution: the internal organs of filtration and the external limbs of stance and stride, together forming the Venusian foundation of the perfected human microcosm.
