Neith—the Arms

Neith is the ancient Egyptian goddess of war, hunting, and weaving, whose name likely means "the terrifying one" or "the veiled one." She is often depicted wearing the red crown of Lower Egypt and carrying a bow and arrows, or a shuttle for weaving. In the context of the Perfected Man, Neith corresponds to the Arms, the instruments of action, strength, and creative force.

Position on the Tree of Life

Neith—the Arms is placed on the fourth Sephirah, Chesed (Mercy), on the Pillar of Mercy. This position associates her with the expansive, loving, and structuring power of the divine. The Arms, as the seat of Neith, represent the outflow of mercy into action—the reaching out, the embrace, and the wielding of power in service of creation.

Astrological and Planetary Correspondence

Chesed is governed by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, benevolence, and authority. Neith, as the Arms, channels this Jovian energy into directed, purposeful movement. The bow and arrows she carries symbolize the focused will and the ability to strike with precision, while the weaving shuttle represents the interlacing of fate and the ordering of chaos into form.

Historical Context

Neith was one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon, with her cult center at Sais in the Nile Delta. She was a creator goddess who wove the world into existence on her loom, and a warrior goddess who protected the pharaoh and the dead. In the Pyramid Texts, she is called "the opener of the ways," guiding the deceased through the underworld. Her association with the arms is natural: they are the limbs that act, that fight, that create. In later syncretic traditions, Neith was identified with Athena and Minerva, goddesses of wisdom and strategic warfare. The arms, as her domain, are not merely physical limbs but symbols of the will made manifest—the bridge between intention and result.

In Liber 777

In the table of Liber 777, Neith—the Arms appears at the intersection of the Perfected Man row and the Chesed column. This correspondence aligns the goddess of war and weaving with the Sephirah of Mercy, suggesting that true power is wielded with compassion and that the arms of the Perfected Man are both weapons and tools of creation.
