7th Plane, Middle Pillar

The 7th Plane, Middle Pillar, is the lowest of the seven planes on the Tree of Life, corresponding to the Sephirah Malkuth (Kingdom). It represents the physical universe, the material world, and the final stage of emanation from the divine. The Middle Pillar, on which this plane sits, is the central column of the Tree, symbolizing balance, harmony, and the direct path of spiritual descent and ascent. Here, the raw energy of the higher planes crystallizes into dense matter, making it the realm of tangible experience, the body, and the Earth itself.

Position on the Tree of Life

This plane is the tenth and final step on the Tree of Life, Malkuth. It is the foundation of the Middle Pillar, which also includes Keter (1st Plane), Tiphereth (4th Plane), and Yesod (6th Plane). As the lowest point, it receives and stabilizes the influences from all higher Sephiroth, serving as the gateway between the spiritual and physical worlds.

Astrological and Planetary Correspondence

In the system of Liber 777, the 7th Plane, Middle Pillar, is associated with the planet Earth (in its elemental sense) and the element of Earth itself. This corresponds to the material sphere, the physical body, and the sensory world. It is the point where the astrological influences of the higher planets become manifest in concrete form.

Historical Context

The concept of the 7th Plane as Malkuth originates in the Kabbalistic tradition, where the Tree of Life is divided into three pillars. The Middle Pillar (also called the Pillar of Mildness or Equilibrium) is the central axis, and Malkuth is its base. In the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, this plane was elaborated in the 777 tables as the final stage of the Qabalistic scale, linking it to the material world, the four elements (especially Earth), and the physical senses. Aleister Crowley’s Liber 777 systematizes these correspondences, placing the 7th Plane, Middle Pillar, at the intersection of the material realm and the divine structure, emphasizing its role as the ‘Kingdom’ where spiritual forces are actualized.

In the 777 table, the 7th Plane, Middle Pillar, appears as the entry for Malkuth on the Tree of Life. It is the grounding point of the entire system, representing the physical universe as the vessel for spiritual work and the final destination of the descending light.
