Orders of Qliphoth · Malkuth

Lilith

Lilith (Hebrew: לילית, ‘night creature’) is the tenth order of the Qliphoth, the demonic counterpart to the Sephirah Malkuth. In the Qabalah, she represents the most material and unbalanced aspect of the created world—the “shell” (Qlipha) that clings to the sphere of Earth, perverting its receptivity into chaos and impurity.

Position on the Tree of Life

Lilith occupies the tenth step of the Qliphothic tree, directly opposing Malkuth (the Kingdom). Where Malkuth is the vessel that receives the divine influx and grounds it in physical reality, Lilith is the same vessel turned inward, choked by matter and severed from the higher Sephiroth. She is the gate of death and the threshold of the demonic, the final obstruction before the abyss of the unmanifest.

Historical context

Lilith’s origins lie in ancient Mesopotamian night-demons (Lilitu), but her Qliphothic form crystallizes in medieval Jewish mysticism. The Zohar (II:267b) describes her as the “serpent-woman” who seduces men and strangles infants, the consort of Samael. In the Treatise on the Left Emanation (13th century), she is the queen of the Qliphoth, ruling over the sphere of Malkuth. Later Qabalists, notably Isaac Luria, systematized her as the tenth and lowest of the demonic orders, the “unholy kingdom” that mirrors the Shekinah’s exile. Her name appears in Isaiah 34:14 as a “night creature” haunting Edom’s ruins, which Qabalists read as a prophecy of the Qliphothic realm. In the grimoire tradition (e.g., The Goetia), she is invoked as a spirit of lust and destruction, but in the 777 system she is strictly a hierarchical order—a collective of demonic forces rather than a single entity.

Lilith’s role in the Qliphoth is to embody the dregs of creation: the refuse of the Sephirotic light that could not be absorbed. She is the “black moon” of Malkuth, the shadow of the physical world that resists redemption. Her correspondences in 777 include the element Earth (in its most gross aspect) and the planetary sphere of Saturn (as the slowest, most restrictive planet), though the table itself assigns no explicit astrological symbol to this step.

In Liber 777, Lilith appears as the Qliphothic order for Malkuth (scale step 10). She is the final entry in the column of demonic orders, the shell that seals the Tree of Life from below—a necessary counterpart to the Kingdom’s light, yet wholly corrupt.
