Dagdagiron

Dagdagiron is the Qliphothic order assigned to Path 26 of the Tree of Life, corresponding to the Hebrew letter Tzaddi. Its name derives from the Hebrew root dagag (דגג), meaning "to fish" or "to pierce," and iron (אירון), a suffix indicating a class or order of demons. Thus, Dagdagiron translates to "the Piercing Fishers" or "the Order of the Fish-Hooks," evoking imagery of entrapment, seduction, and the hooking of souls into material illusion.

Position on the Tree of Life

Dagdagiron occupies the 26th path on the Qliphothic Tree, the inverse of the Path of Tzaddi in the Sephirotic system. This path connects the sephirah Netzach (Victory) to Yesod (Foundation) in the Qliphoth, representing the distortion of the astral plane's formative energies. Where the holy path of Tzaddi symbolizes the starry heavens and the divine will to manifest, Dagdagiron embodies the deceptive allure of material forms—the hook that drags consciousness into the mire of illusion.

Astrological and Planetary Correspondence

In the 777 system, Path 26 is governed by the zodiacal sign Aquarius, but in the Qliphoth, this correspondence is inverted. Dagdagiron represents the "dark Aquarius"—the fixed, airy intellect turned toward rigid dogma, cold rationalism, or the enslavement of the mind to abstract systems. Its planetary influence is Saturn in Aquarius, emphasizing the binding of spirit through intellectual pride and the worship of structure over life.

Historical Context

Dagdagiron appears in the grimoire tradition of the Qliphoth as cataloged in the Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage and later systematized by occultists of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The name is first recorded in the Sepher Yetzirah commentaries, where the 26th path is described as the "Intelligence of the Shells"—a gateway through which the unbalanced forces of the zodiacal sphere leak into the material world.

In the Zohar, the concept of "fishing" for souls is associated with the demonic Sitra Ahra (the Other Side), where the qliphoth are said to cast nets of desire to ensnare the unwary. Dagdagiron specifically governs the temptation of the intellect—the hook of a clever argument, a seductive philosophy, or a system of thought that replaces direct spiritual experience with mental constructs.

Later, in the 777 tables, Aleister Crowley placed Dagdagiron as the Qliphothic order for Path 26, aligning it with the Tarot card The Star (Atu XVII) in its shadow aspect. The Star's reversed meaning—false hope, misplaced faith, or the illusion of transcendence—mirrors Dagdagiron's function: to lure the seeker into believing they have attained liberation when they have merely been caught on a hook of their own making.

In Liber 777

In the table at column VIII (Orders of Qliphoth), row 26, Dagdagiron appears as the sole entry. Its correspondences in sibling cells include the Hebrew letter Tzaddi (in the column of Letters), the zodiacal sign Aquarius (in the column of Astrological Symbols), and the number 90 (the value of Tzaddi). The name is written in Hebrew as דגדגירון, with the root dagag doubled for emphasis, suggesting an intensification of the piercing, hooking action.
