In the Qabalah, it is the order of infernal spirits and husks assigned to the nineteenth path of the Tree of Life, a sphere of unbalanced, consuming fire that corresponds to the punitive, severing aspect of divine justice.

Position on the Tree of Life

Path 19 connects Chesed (Mercy) to Geburah (Severity) on the Tree of Life, a channel that in its ideal form tempers loving-kindness with stern judgment. In the Qliphoth, Shalehbiron represents the corruption of that equilibrium: instead of a balanced stream of law and compassion, it manifests as a raging, purgatorial flame that devours without discrimination, the shell (kelipah) of Geburah’s fiery aspect turned to pure destruction.

Astrological and Planetary Correspondence

In Liber 777, Path 19 is attributed to the planet Mars in its adverse, unbalanced expression, or to the astrological figure of the Scorpion. Shalehbiron incarnates the martial energy of Geburah stripped of all restraint—wrath, war, and burning plague. Its nature is volcanic, not merely combative; it is the flame that annihilates the unfit, leaving only ash and void.

Historical Context

The name Shalehbiron appears in full in the list of Qliphoth compiled by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and later elaborated by Aleister Crowley in Liber 777. It derives from earlier Jewish mystical sources that catalogue the 'shells' of the divine emanations. The Zohar and related texts speak of shalhevet Yah ('the flame of God') as a holy fire; Shalehbiron is its demonic parody—a fire that burns without purifying, that consumes the worlds rather than refining them. In the Visions of the Qliphoth, when the adept traverses the abyss, Shalehbiron is met as a furnace of torment, a test of the will wherein only the brazen soul can pass through without being consumed. Its sibling orders on other paths—Thagiriron (the clamorous flame of Tiphereth), Tzaphiriron (the flame of splendor)—suggest a family of fiery shells, each perverting a different solar or martial grade, but Shalehbiron is the most explicitly punitive, the flame of god’s own anger turned to a weapon against the worthy and the unworthy alike.

In Column VIII, row 19 of Liber 777, Shalehbiron is inscribed as the order of Qliphoth ruling the path of Geburah. It stands as a reminder that fire, when unbalanced, becomes a destroying flood; the mage must learn to endure its blast without being reduced to cinder.
